Delhi Capitals (DC) has enlisted Afghanistan’s all-rounder, Gulbadin Naib, to step into the shoes left empty by the injured Mitchell Marsh for the rest of the IPL season. Naib, making his IPL debut, was secured for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. Marsh’s exit ensued from a hamstring injury that prompted his return to Perth for medical consultation with Cricket Australia’s staff. At an event in Delhi, DC’s head coach, Ricky Ponting, affirmed Marsh’s absence while assuring fans that his recovery wouldn’t compromise his potential leadership role for Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin on June 1.

During his brief tenure with DC this season, Marsh contributed 61 runs over three innings, achieving a high score of 23, and secured only one wicket from eight overs, maintaining an economy rate of 12.87. This marks the second consecutive season where DC has witnessed Marsh sidelined midway through the tournament. Despite Marsh’s absence, DC, currently positioned sixth in the points table, will confront challenging adversaries like MI, KKR, RR, RCB, and LSG in their remaining matches.
