India endured back-to-back home Test series defeats, losing 0-3 to New Zealand and 0-2 to South Africa. With the team now preparing for a two-Test series in Sri Lanka beginning on August 15, Kapil believes the lack of exposure to domestic cricket has contributed to the team’s difficulties against spin.
Kapil pointed to the growing volume of T20Is and ODIs as one of the reasons India’s players have struggled to adapt to the demands of Test cricket.
He also stressed the importance of domestic cricket, arguing that senior players should regularly feature in three- and four-day matches to sharpen their skills against spin while helping younger cricketers learn from them.
India will face another stern test in Sri Lanka, where spin-friendly conditions are expected to play a significant role in the series.
