The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to move the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup out of Bangladesh due to the ongoing political instability in the country.

Originally scheduled to take place in Bangladesh from October 3 to October 20, the tournament will now be hosted in the UAE. This decision was made during a recent ICC Board meeting held virtually on Tuesday. The tournament dates remain unchanged, with the event set to run from October 3 to 20.

During the meeting, board members agreed that the current situation in Bangladesh is not conducive to hosting the event. Despite the relocation, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will continue to serve as the official host of the tournament.

The BCB has reportedly accepted the decision to move the tournament, prioritizing the safety and smooth operation of the global event.

The tournament will feature 10 teams, which were initially set to compete across Dhaka and Sylhet in Bangladesh. Although the UAE will now host the event, their national team will not participate as they did not qualify for the tournament. The last edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup was held in South Africa in 2023, where Australia claimed the title by defeating the hosts.

Teams Competing in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup:

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Scotland, England, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies
