Women’s Asia Cup 2026: Fatima Sana Fined for Misconduct During India-Pakistan Clash

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Group A clash against India in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 in Dubai.

Women’s Asia Cup 2026: Fatima Sana Fined for Misconduct During India-Pakistan Clash

Fatima was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The provision relates to using language, actions or gestures following a dismissal that could disparage a batter or provoke an aggressive reaction.

The Pakistan captain has also received one demerit point, taking her total to two demerit points within a 24-month period. It is her second offence during that timeframe.

Fatima’s previous demerit point was issued during the first T20I of Pakistan’s series against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.

What Happened During the India-Pakistan Match?

The incident occurred during the second over of India’s innings, shortly after Fatima dismissed opener Shafali Verma.

Following the dismissal, Fatima gestured towards the pavilion, which was deemed to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

Fatima admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, no formal disciplinary hearing was required.

The charge was brought by on-field umpires Nimali Perera and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.

Fatima Now Has Two Demerit Points

Under ICC regulations, demerit points remain on a player’s disciplinary record for 24 months from the date they are imposed.

If Fatima accumulates four or more demerit points within that period, those points are converted into suspension points. Two suspension points result in a ban, which could mean missing one Test, two ODIs or two T20Is, depending on which format comes first.

With her latest sanction, Fatima now has two demerit points on her record and will need to avoid further disciplinary breaches during the remainder of the applicable 24-month period.

Level 1 Offence Carries Financial Penalty

Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, while the maximum punishment can be a fine of 50 per cent of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Fatima’s 10 per cent fine and one demerit point therefore fall within the prescribed range for a Level 1 offence.
