England have made one change to their lineup, with Will Jacks coming in for Mark Wood, who has been ruled out due to a sore knee. Wood’s injury was confirmed a few days after the first Test.

Will Jacks Returns to Test Cricket After Three Years
This match will mark Will Jacks’ return to Test cricket after a three-year hiatus. Jacks has only played two Tests so far, making this his third red-ball appearance—and his first in a day-night pink ball Test.
While Jacks has established himself in white-ball cricket, being a regular in England’s ODI and T20I squads, he had limited opportunities in the Test arena before this Ashes series.
Why Jacks Over Tongue or Bashir?
The ECB’s decision seems aimed at strengthening England’s batting line-up rather than adding a spin option. England struggled to post big totals in the first Test, and Jacks’ batting credentials likely earned him the nod over Jack Leach, Amar Virdi, or other spin options.
Jacks recently impressed in County cricket, scoring a century with the bat and taking five wickets, showcasing his all-round abilities ahead of the Ashes clash.
