Wiaan Mulder has been ruled out of the rest of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka after fracturing his right middle finger.
The injury occurred during the first innings when Mulder was hit on the lower hand while batting. Despite the setback, he managed to remain unbeaten on 9 as South Africa posted 191. X-rays later confirmed the fracture, sidelining him for the remainder of the series.
Marco Jansen grabbed 7 wickets, leading to Sri Lanka’s lowest-ever score in Test cricket.
Matthew Breetzke, who debuted in Tests against Bangladesh last month, has been called up as Mulder’s replacement for the second Test, set to take place from December 5 to 9 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
Meanwhile, South Africa is firmly in control of the first Test following a dismal batting display by Sri Lanka, who were skittled out for just 42 runs in their first innings. Marco Jansen delivered a sensational performance, claiming seven wickets to put the hosts in a dominant position.
