Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are facing off in Match 61 of IPL 2026 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, with both teams carrying significant stakes into the contest.
Defending champions RCB have been in outstanding form this season, winning eight of their first 12 matches and entering the clash on the back of a dominant win over Kolkata Knight Riders. Another victory would confirm their playoff qualification.
PBKS, however, find themselves under intense pressure after suffering five consecutive defeats following a strong start to the campaign. A loss here would deal a major blow to their playoff hopes.
At the toss, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won and opted to bowl first, backing his team to respond positively under pressure. The milestone match also marks his 100th IPL game as captain.
In a major development for RCB, captain Rajat Patidar has been ruled out of the match after reportedly experiencing concussion-like symptoms following a blow in the previous game against KKR. Although he travelled with the squad to Dharamsala, he was deemed unavailable.
In Patidar’s absence, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has taken over captaincy duties. RCB have brought in Suyash Sharma and Romario Shepherd, while PBKS made two changes by including Harpreet Brar and Lockie Ferguson.
Speaking after the toss, Jitesh confirmed that Patidar is recovering well and is expected to return for RCB’s next game in Hyderabad. He also emphasized the importance of the match, noting that a win would seal a playoff berth for the defending champions.
The clash is shaping up as a crucial battle, with RCB chasing qualification and PBKS fighting to keep their season alive.
