“Why can’t you finish matches like Virat Kohli?” – Babar Azam loses temper after reporter’s question

A reporter’s question comparing Babar Azam to legendary Virat Kohli drew an irritated response from the former Pakistan captain following Peshawar Zalmi’s four-wicket win over Hyderabad Kingsmen on Wednesday, April 8, in the ongoing Pakistan Super League.

“Why can’t you finish matches like Virat Kohli?” – Babar Azam loses temper after reporter’s question

In a low-scoring thriller at the National Stadium in Karachi, Peshawar bowled out Hyderabad for 145 in 18.2 overs. Chasing the modest target, Babar anchored the innings but was dismissed for 43 off 37 balls, leaving Peshawar needing 30 runs off the final five overs with six wickets in hand.

Despite a spirited fightback from the Kingsmen, Peshawar clinched victory with Aamer Jamal hitting the winning single off the last ball. Babar would have liked to see his team over the line after his measured innings, especially with 14 runs required in the final over, but Hyderabad had come close to snatching the game.

When asked why he doesn’t finish matches like Kohli, the 31-year-old lost his cool.

“Virat Kohli comes with the same shot of game as you but he finishes the match which you lack. People compare him with you — what are your views?” the reporter asked.

“Finish these things. Keep these things to yourself. End the comparison and move on. It’s your misconception that I have not finished matches,” Babar replied.

So far in the PSL 2026, Babar has scored 82 runs in two matches at an average of 41 and a strike rate of 126.15.
