In a spectacular debut for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, 18-year-old batting sensation Angkrish Raghuvanshi showcased his prowess by scoring a blistering fifty against Delhi Capitals (DC). The young star’s explosive knock of 54 runs off just 27 deliveries, comprising five boundaries and three sixes, propelled KKR to a commanding victory by 106 runs at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag. Raghuvanshi’s performance played a pivotal role in KKR posting the second-highest total in IPL history, setting the stage for their emphatic win over Delhi.

Snapped up by Kolkata for his base price of Rs 20 lakh in the IPL 2024 mini-auction, Raghuvanshi’s remarkable achievement places him as the seventh-youngest batter to score a fifty in the IPL. His partnership with Sunil Narine, amassing 104 runs, proved to be game-changing as they decimated the DC bowling attack.

At 18 years and 303 days, Raghuvanshi became the second-youngest player to register a half-century for KKR, narrowly missing out on surpassing Shubman Gill’s record. His rapid fifty off just 25 balls on debut ranks him as the second-fastest debutant to achieve the feat in IPL history, trailing only James Hopes’ 24-ball fifty in 2008.

Raghuvanshi’s debut innings also marked the fourth-highest individual score by a KKR batter in their IPL debut, underscoring his promising talent. His remarkable performance earned accolades from KKR captain Shreyas Iyer, who praised Raghuvanshi’s fearlessness, work ethic, and astute batting prowess.

The young prodigy rose to prominence following his stellar performance in the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, where he emerged as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 278 runs in six innings. Originally from Delhi, Raghuvanshi’s journey to cricketing stardom saw him relocate to Mumbai at the age of 11, where he honed his skills under the guidance of mentors Abhishek Nayar and Omkar Salvi.

Raghuvanshi’s exceptional talent was further validated during the 2023-24 season when he made his debut in List A and T20 events for Mumbai, delivering standout performances in the CK Nayudu Trophy with 765 runs in nine matches.

As KKR continues its quest for IPL glory in 2024, all eyes will be on Raghuvanshi to see how he further cements his place as a rising star in the cricketing world and contributes to his team’s success on the grand stage of IPL cricket.
