A new chapter is about to unfold in the fierce cricket rivalry between India and Pakistan as the two teams are set to face off in a Champions Trophy match on February 23 in Dubai. With political tensions preventing bilateral series since 2012-13, encounters between the arch-rivals have become increasingly rare, making these matchups even more special. The only occasions the two sides meet are during ICC events and the Asia Cup, and the excitement among fans is unmatched.
Ahead of the upcoming match, Netflix is set to release a cricket documentary series titled The Greatest Rivalry – India vs Pakistan, premiering on February 7. In anticipation, the OTT platform shared a teaser that offers a sneak peek into what fans can expect.
In the trailer, former India captain Sourav Ganguly reflects on the 1996 Friendship Cup, a series of five matches between the two nations held in Canada. Ganguly humorously remarked,
“It was a Friendship tour only in name, but when Shoaib Akhtar is going to bowl at 150 kilometres an hour, where is the friendship in that?”
Reacting to this, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond, writing,
“Dada @SGanguly99 you’re awesome. Indian cricket is incomplete without you.”
