Former India batter Aakash Chopra expressed his frustration after India suffered a 2-1 defeat in the three-match ODI series against England. The Men in Blue went down in the series decider at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday, July 19.
India’s tour began with a T20I series defeat to Ireland before they were beaten in both limited-overs series against England. The T20I series ended in a 4-0 defeat, with India being thoroughly outplayed and subsequently losing their top spot in the ICC rankings.
Chopra was particularly concerned by India’s lack of series victories against top international teams in recent times. Apart from a Test win and an ODI series victory against Afghanistan, India have struggled significantly in overseas conditions.
“We have lost another series. It is not a good story. It is actually a sad story because we lost the T20Is in Ireland, then we lost to England, and now we have lost the ODI series. We are not winning anything. We won a Test against Afghanistan and an ODI series against them. What else have we won apart from that?” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
The former cricketer also warned against allowing India’s 2026 T20 World Cup triumph to overshadow their recent struggles. He stressed that winning and losing can become habits and urged the team not to develop a losing mentality.
“We won the World Cup, but we lost the ODI series to New Zealand before that. We lost the Test series to South Africa before that. We are losing more and winning less. We got happy because we won the World Cup in between, but we are losing a lot apart from that. We shouldn’t acquire the habit of losing,” he added.
Chopra’s comments highlight growing concerns over India’s inconsistency, particularly in overseas conditions, as the team continues to search for a sustained run of success against top international opponents.
