Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out of IPL 2026; LSG set to name replacement soon

LSG’s Global Director of Cricket, Tom Moody, confirmed the development during the KKR vs LSG match, stating that the franchise is already working on contingency plans.

“We are preparing for the fact that he isn’t going to be able to join us. We are looking at replacements, that should be announced in 24–48 hours,” Moody said.

Hasaranga has not featured in competitive cricket since Sri Lanka’s opening match of the 2026 T20 World Cup against Ireland, where he impressed with a three-wicket haul. However, he has reportedly not undergone the mandatory fitness assessment under the supervision of Sri Lanka cricket team. Without clearance and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the board, he is ineligible to participate in the IPL season.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder was signed by LSG for his base price of INR 2 crore in the IPL 2026 mini-auction, but his absence now leaves the franchise searching for a like-for-like replacement.

According to reports, South Africa all-rounder George Linde is among the leading candidates to replace Hasaranga.

Linde, who has represented South Africa in 37 T20Is, brings valuable all-round experience with 403 runs and 35 wickets in the format. He is known for his aggressive lower-order batting and effective left-arm spin, maintaining a T20 strike rate of 147.61 with a bowling economy slightly above 7.50.

He is also part of the IPL’s Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) after going unsold in the mini-auction at a base price of INR 1 crore, making him eligible for mid-season replacement signings.
