Following his removal as selector by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Wahab Riaz responded, rejecting claims that he pressured the selection committee. In a statement on his social media account, he questioned how one vote could dominate over six others in the seven-member committee. Wahab clarified that all decisions were properly documented in meeting minutes. He announced plans to release a detailed statement later in the day.
Notably, the PCB has retained Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, and Bilal Afzal on the selection panel, alongside the captain and head coach. Reports suggest that Wahab was advised to take responsibility for player selections and resign, but his refusal led to his dismissal. Shortly after losing his selector role, Wahab was also removed as senior team manager due to disciplinary issues during recent tours.
During these tours, sources allege that Shaheen Afridi displayed inappropriate behavior towards coaches and management, which was reportedly overlooked by team managers. Investigations are ongoing into the disciplinary responsibilities of the managers and allegations of player factions within the team.
Coaches have also highlighted concerns about some players’ lack of seriousness, contributing to a tense atmosphere within the team.
