KKR have endured a winless run across their opening five matches, with their only point coming from a rain-abandoned game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. The franchise has since suffered four consecutive defeats, raising concerns over their team balance and performance.
Sehwag believes the core issue lies in the batting unit, particularly the underperformance at the top order. He also questioned the impact of all-rounder Cameron Green, who was acquired for a massive INR 25.20 crore but has failed to deliver consistently with both bat and ball.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said the franchise must acknowledge the mistake in their auction strategy if players are not delivering on expectations. He added that Green’s performances have not justified his price tag and that the team’s combination does not improve with his inclusion given the lack of output in both departments.
As a solution, Sehwag suggested that KKR consider benching Green and bringing in Tim Seifert to strengthen the top order. He proposed a reshuffled batting lineup, with Seifert opening alongside another aggressive option, followed by Ajinkya Rahane at number three, and power-hitters like Rovman Powell and Rinku Singh to follow.
KKR, led by Rahane, will look to bounce back when they face Gujarat Titans on April 17 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
