AB de Villiers has been a significant figure for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), featuring in 156 matches and forming a formidable partnership with Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Speculations are rife regarding AB de Villiers’ potential return to the RCB squad. The former South African captain has confirmed receiving an invitation from his close friend and RCB skipper, Virat Kohli. If plans fall into place, AB de Villiers could find himself mentoring RCB’s batters ahead of the IPL 2024 season.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers stated, “Nothing confirmed yet. Virat Kohli has hinted that he might want me to come over just to spend a bit of time with him and some of the batters perhaps. Nothing confirmed yet.”
Awaiting an official call from RCB’s new head coach, Andy Flower, to take up the mentoring role, AB de Villiers mentioned his commitments in Mumbai for IPL 2024 commentary duties. He expressed his readiness to return for the knockout stages after fulfilling his commentary responsibilities.
When will Virat Kohli join RCB?
While AB de Villiers’ potential involvement with RCB adds excitement to the upcoming IPL season, fans also await Virat Kohli’s return to the squad. Currently on a break following the birth of his son Akaay Kohli, Virat Kohli missed the IND vs ENG Tests. Although RCB has not confirmed the exact date of Kohli’s joining, it is anticipated that he will link up with the squad soon, especially with RCB’s camp commencing next week.
