Uttar Pradesh sets record for highest run-chase in Indian domestic cricket.

Sameer Rizvi’s stunning double century powered Uttar Pradesh to a record-breaking chase of 407 runs in an U-23 State A Trophy one-day match against Vidarbha at the GSFC Cricket Ground in Vadodara. UP achieved the highest successful chase in Indian domestic one-day cricket, cruising to victory by eight wickets in just 41.2 overs.

Rizvi, who has been a standout performer in the tournament, smashed an unbeaten 202* off just 105 balls, including 10 boundaries and an incredible 18 sixes. This marked his second double century in a matter of days and his fourth century in just six matches of the competition.

Openers Shaurya Singh and Swastik set the tone for the chase with a quick-fire 106-run partnership in just 10.4 overs. Rizvi then joined forces with wicketkeeper-batter Shoaib Siddiqui, who contributed a steady 96* off 73 balls. The pair put on a match-winning, unbeaten 296-run partnership to seal the historic win.

This chase shattered previous records, surpassing Bengal Women’s successful pursuit of 390 against Haryana earlier this month and the Vijay Hazare Trophy record of 384 chased by Andhra Pradesh against Goa.

Rizvi’s extraordinary form continues, with 728 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 172.51 in the tournament. Earlier this week, he hammered another double century (201* off 97 balls) against Tripura and notched up big hundreds against Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

Once touted as a rising star, Rizvi was picked up for INR 8.4 crore by Chennai Super Kings in the 2024 IPL auction but struggled for opportunities. This year, he was signed by Delhi Capitals for a more modest INR 95 lakhs. With performances like these, Rizvi is making a strong case to earn a spot in the playing XI for the upcoming IPL season.
