Under the terms of the deal, Mir will play for the Worcestershire Rapids as an overseas player in the 2026 season, before becoming eligible as a local player for the following two years—a move the club calls part of its “long-term strategic planning.”
“The first year of his contract will be as part of the club’s overseas player quota, while in years two and three, he will qualify as a local player due to residency regulations,” the club said in a statement.
This will be Mir’s second stint with Worcestershire after an impressive spell in 2023, where he led both the batting and bowling averages for the side. He was scheduled to return in 2024, but visa and paperwork issues prevented his participation. He was replaced by West Indies leggie Hayden Walsh.
Worcestershire CEO Ashley Giles praised the 29-year-old for his talent and adaptability, calling him a “high-calibre” player with the potential to play a key long-term role.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Usama to Worcestershire. His ability to transition into a homegrown player from 2027 gives us great flexibility in squad planning,” said Giles.
“It also reflects our commitment to building a strong and sustainable team.”
