The Tigers have four points from three matches, having beaten Sri Lanka and lost to South Africa. To advance to the Super Eight, they need to either win or have a washout against Nepal on June 17.

Even if they lose to Nepal, they can still qualify if Sri Lanka beats the Netherlands, or if Sri Lanka doesn’t lose by a big margin, or if that match is washed out.

If Bangladesh advances, they will join Group 1 with India, Australia, and Afghanistan. The pre-tournament seeding by the ICC fixed Bangladesh’s group and opponents, meaning their position in the group won’t change whether they finish first or second.

Initially, Bangladesh wasn’t part of the pre-tournament seeding, as South Africa and Sri Lanka were given the top spots in group D. With Sri Lanka out and South Africa already through, Bangladesh is now competing for Sri Lanka’s D2 spot.

This seeding system means Bangladesh will face strong teams like India, Australia, and Afghanistan in the Super Eight, while the other group includes teams like the USA and Scotland, alongside the West Indies and South Africa.

If given a choice, Bangladesh would prefer South Africa’s spot, but they must now prepare for the tough matches ahead. They will play Australia and India at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on June 21 and 22, where previous matches have had low scores. Bangladesh’s batters will face a challenge against these teams’ strong bowling attacks, but their own bowlers could also create problems.

Bangladesh will then play Afghanistan in Kingstown on June 24, the same venue where they beat the Netherlands. The pitch there supports fast bowlers and has variable bounce early on, but scoring becomes easier later. Early wickets and handling Afghanistan’s spin attack will be crucial for Bangladesh.

The Caribbean conditions may favor Bangladesh, but their path to the semifinals in the Super Eight is challenging.
