Yuzvendra Chahal, the experienced spinner of the Indian cricket team, shared his predictions for the highest run-scorer (Orange Cap) and leading wicket-taker in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. In a video on his YouTube channel, when asked by Gulrez Khan, an Esports streamer, Chahal jokingly picked himself but later stated that he believes either Jos Buttler or Yashasvi Jaiswal will clinch the Orange Cap. Additionally, he predicted himself as the leading wicket-taker, with Rashid Khan of Gujarat Titans securing the second position.
The experienced spinner confidently stated, “I believe I’ll take the most wickets. Rashid Khan comes second,” in a video.
Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra expressed surprise at leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from the BCCI central contracts. He mentioned that Chahal’s omission suggests the selection committee is exploring other options.
Chopra shared his thoughts on YouTube, saying, “I’m a bit surprised by Yuzi Chahal’s absence. I can understand names like Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, and even Deepak Hooda not being there. But Chahal’s exclusion raises questions about the direction the BCCI is heading. It’s a confirmation of a shift in strategy. Despite a glimmer of hope, his name is missing.”
Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, out of favor for ignoring the Ranji Trophy directive, did not make the cut. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retained their positions in the top bracket in the latest list of centrally-contracted players by the BCCI.
