Varun Chakaravarthy Joins India's ODI Squad for Training in Nagpur.

Although not named in the squads for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England or the Champions Trophy, Varun Chakaravarthy has been training with the Indian team in Nagpur.

The 33-year-old mystery spinner has been in exceptional form over the past year, taking 21 wickets—his best-ever performance in an IPL season—during Kolkata Knight Riders’ title-winning campaign. His impressive run led to his inclusion in the Indian T20I squad, and he was named Player of the Series in the recently concluded T20I series against England, where he consistently troubled opposition batters.

There has been growing support from cricket experts like R. Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik for Chakaravarthy to be included in the Champions Trophy squad. While Kuldeep Yadav remains India’s only frontline spinner for the upcoming series, the squad also includes three spin-bowling all-rounders: Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar. It remains to be seen whether Chakaravarthy will be added to the squad for the England ODIs.

Samson Injured, Set to Miss Six Weeks

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson has sustained a left index finger injury during the final T20I against England and is expected to be out of action for six weeks. Samson entered the T20I series after scoring three centuries in his last five matches, but managed only 51 runs across the five games against England, with the short ball proving to be a challenge. Despite the injury setback, Samson is expected to be fit in time for the IPL, where he will once again lead Rajasthan Royals.

Mumbai Receive Double Boost

In another development, Shivam Dube and Suryakumar Yadav have made themselves available for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy knockouts, following a recent directive from the BCCI urging national players to prioritize domestic cricket. Both players were part of the T20I squad but are not in the current ODI setup. Mumbai’s next match is their quarterfinal clash against Haryana in Lahli.
