“Their bowling is nothing special” – Former India opener previews England ahead of India semifinal clash

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has expressed confidence that India national cricket team can take advantage of England cricket team’s bowling ahead of their T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final clash on Thursday, March 5, at Wankhede Stadium. “If we can chase 195 against the West Indies, we can do that against England as well. Their bowling is nothing special as such,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

England’s attack has featured pace from Jofra Archer, backed by Sam Curran at the death and occasional bursts from Jamie Overton. Their spin duo, Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson, have been disciplined with tight lines and clever variations, while Will Jacks has made an impact with both off-spin and batting, earning Player-of-the-Match awards in four of England’s seven games.

Despite these threats, Sehwag emphasised that India must be at their absolute best to overcome England. “We are playing in India, we are playing at the Wankhede, our favorite ground, so we have the edge. But having the edge does not mean that we will win. Your batting, bowling, and fielding has to be on point. It will not work if only some departments fire. We just need a little luck,” he added.

India have regained momentum after a Super-8 loss to South Africa cricket team, with their batting unit dominating against Zimbabwe cricket team and Sanju Samson’s match-winning knock helping them edge past West Indies cricket team in a virtual knockout.

The semi-final will see India return to Wankhede Stadium, where they opened the tournament against the USA cricket team, while England have played two previous games in Mumbai, including a close win over Nepal cricket team and a loss to the West Indies. This marks the third consecutive T20 World Cup semi-final meeting between the two sides, with England winning the first in 2022 and India triumphing in 2024.
