"The Best Bowler in the World Today" – Pakistan Legend Praises Jasprit Bumrah, Regrets His Absence in Champions Trophy 2025

Former Pakistan fast-bowling great Sarfraz Nawaz has hailed Jasprit Bumrah as the best bowler in the world today, expressing disappointment over the Indian pacer’s absence in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. Nawaz believes that fans have missed out on watching one of the finest fast bowlers in action during the prestigious tournament.

Bumrah, who has been sidelined due to a back injury, was rested by Indian selectors to manage his workload, especially with a packed cricketing calendar ahead. The 31-year-old was in scintillating form during India’s recent Test series in Australia, where he claimed 32 wickets in five matches at an astonishing average of 13.06.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Nawaz said:
“I must tell you, he is the best bowler in the world today. Unfortunately, he’s not fit. Otherwise, we could have seen more of him, just like we did in Australia. He did an outstanding job there. It’s a shame he’s missing the Champions Trophy.”

“Shaheen Afridi Has Lost His Rhythm” – Nawaz on Pakistan’s Pace Spearhead

The 76-year-old also weighed in on Shaheen Shah Afridi, stating that the left-arm pacer has not been the same bowler since his injury. Nawaz pointed out a decline in Afridi’s pace and accuracy, which has hampered his effectiveness.

“Since his injury, he hasn’t been the same. His pace has dropped, and his line and length are inconsistent. He couldn’t produce too many deliveries like the one he bowled to Sharmaji (Rohit Sharma). Towards the end, he looked exhausted and leaked too many runs.”

Afridi managed to take two wickets in Pakistan’s match against India but conceded 74 runs in eight overs. He also went wicketless against New Zealand in Pakistan’s opening game. The defending champions crashed out of the tournament, finishing last in Group A without a single win in three matches.

“Pakistan’s Selection Was Very Poor” – Nawaz Criticizes Team Management

Nawaz also questioned Pakistan’s team selection and captaincy, particularly pointing out Mohammad Rizwan’s demeanor during the toss before the match against India.

“I noticed Rizwan looked completely different at the toss. He seemed lost, unlike his usual self. Maybe it was pressure, but he wasn’t as vocal or energetic as he usually is. Pakistan’s selection was very poor. If a proper team isn’t picked, the opposition will always have the upper hand.”

Following Pakistan’s early exit, reports suggest that significant changes could be made within the team and management in the coming months.
