Former Test batter and ICC Match Referee David Boon has been appointed to the Cricket Australia (CA) Board, filling the vacancy left by Paul Green, who stepped down after six years as Cricket Tasmania’s representative.
Boon will wrap up his tenure as an ICC Match Referee following the ongoing Champions Trophy in Pakistan and Dubai before officially joining the CA Board on March 28.
A legend of Australian cricket, Boon played 107 Test matches between 1984 and 1996, scoring 7,422 runs at an average of 43.65, including 21 centuries—matching the tally of fellow great Neil Harvey. He also took 99 catches and was, at the time, Australia’s fifth-highest Test run-scorer and most-capped player after Allan Border.
In One Day Internationals, Boon featured in 181 matches, amassing 5,964 runs at 37.04, with five centuries. He played a crucial role in Australia’s 1987 World Cup-winning campaign, earning Man of the Match honors in the final with a vital 75-run knock against England.

Beyond his playing career, Boon has been deeply involved in cricket administration. He has served as a Cricket Tasmania director since 2014 and became Chair in 2022. He was also Cricket Tasmania’s general manager and a national selector from 2000 to 2011 before taking on the role of ICC Match Referee in 2011.
CA Chair Mike Baird welcomed Boon’s appointment, saying, “David brings a wealth of experience both as a player and as an administrator. He is an iconic figure in Australian cricket, widely respected for his achievements on the field and his contributions to the game at the state, national, and international levels.
“His insights from his time as an ICC Match Referee will be invaluable as we navigate cricket’s rapidly evolving landscape.”
