Since its inception, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has provided young Pakistani cricketers with a stage to showcase their talent. This year, the league’s excitement reached new heights as the PSL’s legendary roadshow took center stage at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
From international stars to homegrown talent, the PSL continues to deliver thrilling T20 action. During a panel discussion at the roadshow, former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam reflected on his own PSL journey, calling the league the perfect platform for discovering and nurturing real talent.
Babar Azam Reflects on His PSL Journey
Babar’s PSL journey began in 2016 with Islamabad United, later representing Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi. Speaking at the roadshow, he shared how the league shaped him as both a cricketer and a person.
“The journey has been really good, and a great experience,” Babar said. “As a youngster in the PSL, my focus was to learn as much as I could from the top players. Sharing the dressing room with legends like Kumar Sangakkara, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, and Mahela Jayawardene taught me a lot. Observing their approach, the way they communicate, and what they taught us helped me grow immensely.”
PSL as a Launchpad for Emerging Talent
Babar Azam credits the PSL for molding his game and helping him rise to international prominence.
“It meant a lot to me as a youngster—it was a platform to develop my skills,” he said. “Now, as a senior player, I encourage young cricketers to see the PSL as an opportunity to learn, groom themselves, and maximize their potential.”
With the upcoming PSL season introducing two new franchises, the league is set to provide even more opportunities for emerging talent, paving the way for Pakistan’s next generation of cricket superstars.
