England will face Namibia on Saturday, June 15, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Barbuda. Australia will play against Scotland on Sunday, June 16, at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.
All three teams need each other to advance to the Super Eight. England improved their net run rate by making 50 runs in 3.1 overs against Oman on Thursday.
If England beats Namibia, Scotland must win against Australia to qualify for the next stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Former Australian captain Pat Cummins stated he would never manipulate their net run rate to eliminate England, as it goes against the “spirit of cricket.”
Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood remarked that eliminating England would benefit Australia. However, Cummins clarified that Hazlewood’s comments were taken out of context and not meant seriously.
“We always aim to play our best every time,” Cummins said in St Lucia. “Joshy was joking, and it was misunderstood. We’ll focus on playing Scotland, who have had a strong tournament.”
Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, and Ashton Agar have not yet played in the tournament but may get their chance as Australia plans to rest some players against Scotland.
“I haven’t spoken to the selectors, but rotating players could be likely,” Cummins said. “In the Super Eights, there won’t be any resting. We are used to intense schedules from playing Test cricket and IPL, so we’re prepared for the busy period ahead.”
