Suryakumar Yadav Set to Captain Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 – Report

According to a report from Express Sports, Yadav has confirmed his availability to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to feature in the league games, using the tournament as a build-up for the upcoming T20I series and the T20 World Cup 2026.

Captaincy Switch
Originally, Shreyas Iyer was named Mumbai’s captain for the tournament, but he was ruled out due to injury. Yadav now steps in to lead the side. For context, Shardul Thakur has been captaining Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, while Yadav last played for the state side in the Ranji semi-final against Vidarbha earlier this year, having since focused on national commitments.

Shivam Dube Withdraws
Meanwhile, Shivam Dube, another key player for Mumbai and a prominent Indian all-rounder, has opted out of the SMAT 2025-26. The MCA supported his decision to prioritize preparation for the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa, starting on December 9.

The SMAT 2025-26, beginning November 26, will offer a valuable platform for players like Yadav to fine-tune their skills ahead of the high-stakes international fixtures.
