Stokes Sidelined from All Cricket for at Least 3 Months

Ben Stokes has been sidelined from all cricket for at least three months after tearing his left hamstring. The England captain sustained the injury during the third Test against New Zealand in Hamilton, where England clinched the series 2-1.

Earlier this week, Stokes was notably absent from England’s 15-man squad for the 2024 Champions Trophy due to his injury. His last appearance in the 50-over format was during the 2023 World Cup.

Stokes has faced a series of long-term injuries recently. Following the ODI World Cup, he underwent knee surgery in October 2023, requiring an extended period of rehabilitation before his return. Even during the World Cup, England struggled to fully utilize his all-round skills. In August 2023, a similar hamstring tear ruled him out of the remainder of the English summer, and upon his return, he had to carefully manage his bowling workload. To prioritize his fitness, Stokes opted out of IPL 2024 and did not enter the tournament’s mega auction.

Why Ben Stokes Faces an IPL 2026 Auction Ban

Ahead of the Hamilton Test, Stokes expressed optimism about his fitness and workload management, saying:

“I’ve had to work a lot harder on the physical side to keep doing my job. I bowled a good number of overs in the last two games and felt more confident about getting through long spells in a day. That’s where I was before the hamstring pull in the summer. I’ve moved past that setback and don’t worry about more injuries happening. As you get older, you think about your body more, but I’ve learned to work harder because I have to.”

However, despite his confidence, Stokes bowled extensively during the Hamilton Test, which has now led to another long-term injury. This setback means he will also miss next year’s The Hundred competition, set to begin on January 9.
