Franklin is set to join SRH’s coaching panel alongside Daniel Vettori, stepping in for Dale Steyn who opted out of IPL 2024. Franklin, formerly the head coach at Durham, currently serves as an assistant coach at Islamabad United in PSL 2024. The duo of Franklin and Vettori has previously collaborated at Middlesex and Birmingham Phoenix.
Steyn, the former SRH bowling coach, decided to take a break for personal reasons. He plans to return in the next season after seeking approval for a hiatus from IPL commitments.
Steyn, who played a crucial role in developing Indian pacer Umran Malik, earned recognition for transforming him into an international cricketer, securing a BCCI contract. In the IPL 2024 season, Pat Cummins was named the new captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad, with his strong leadership credentials and association with Vettori in the Australian coaching setup playing a key role in the decision. Cummins’ notable contributions in the World Test Championship and World Cup against India further bolstered his chances as captain.
