The tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates from August 28 to September 13, 2026, with Sri Lanka entering the competition on the back of encouraging results in T20I cricket.
One of the notable selections is Imesha Dulani, who recently made history by becoming only the second Sri Lankan women’s batter, after Athapaththu, to score a T20I century. Dulani smashed an unbeaten 101 against Pakistan on July 31, adding further strength to Sri Lanka’s batting unit.
Strong T20I Form
Sri Lanka have enjoyed an impressive run in T20Is during 2026. They secured a 2-0 series victory over the West Indies in February-March, with Athapaththu named Player of the Series.
They followed that up with a dominant 3-0 whitewash of Bangladesh between April 28 and May 2. Athapaththu again claimed the Player of the Series award after scoring 115 runs and taking four wickets.
Dulani’s century against Pakistan has further highlighted the growing depth in Sri Lanka’s batting line-up.
At the Women’s T20 World Cup in England, however, Sri Lanka finished third in their group and missed out on a place in the semi-finals.
Sri Lanka’s Position in T20I Rankings
Sri Lanka were ranked seventh in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings in the annual rankings released on May 5, 2026. They were just one point behind the sixth-placed team, underlining the competitiveness of the format.
With recent series victories and the emergence of players such as Dulani, Sri Lanka will hope to carry their momentum into the Asia Cup.
