In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Sarfaraz Ahmed, former captain of the Quetta Gladiators, has identified four emerging players poised to seize the spotlight in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9.
Ahmed, renowned for his astute judgment of talent, highlighted the potential of these budding cricketers who he believes are ready to shine on the grand stage of the PSL.
“Each team is scouting for emerging talents. In our camp, we have Adil Naz, a promising fast bowler whom I’ve observed during his stint with the Abbottabad team. Additionally, Khawaja Nafay has caught our attention with his promising skills; he’s relatively new and has recently represented Sindh,” Sarfaraz remarked.
He continued, “Saad Baig, the captain of Pakistan’s U19 team, is another prospect to watch closely, along with Mehran Mumtaz. Given the opportunity, they have the potential to make significant strides for the Pakistan team.”
Saad Baig, particularly, has garnered attention as a standout talent in Pakistan’s U19 setup. Leading the junior national squad in major ICC and ACC tournaments, including the U19 World Cup 2024 and the U19 Asia Cup 2023, Baig showcased his leadership prowess.
During the U19 Asia Cup, Baig steered his team admirably, guiding them to the semi-finals with notable victories. However, their campaign was halted by an unexpected loss to UAE-U19 in the semi-final.
Similarly, in the U19 World Cup 2024, Pakistan displayed dominance in the group stage but faced disappointment in the semi-final against Australia, concluding their journey in the tournament after a fiercely contested match.
