South Africa clinches Test series victory over Pakistan.

South Africa cruised to a 10-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second Test on Monday in Cape Town, sealing a 2-0 series win despite a strong fightback from the tourists in their second innings.

After being forced to follow on, 421 runs behind on the first innings, Pakistan fought hard to reach 478 all out. However, South Africa, who had already qualified for the World Test Championship final last week, comfortably chased down the target of 58 on the fourth day.

David Bedingham, filling in for Ryan Rickelton (who was sidelined with a hamstring strain after his 259 in South Africa’s mammoth first-innings total of 615), finished unbeaten on 44 off 30 balls, securing victory for South Africa in just 7.1 overs.

Pakistan’s captain Shan Masood led the resistance with a gritty 145 before falling to the second new ball, trapped LBW by 18-year-old debutant Kwena Maphaka. This dismissal came just three balls after Kagiso Rabada had Saud Shakeel caught at second slip for 23, ending a 51-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Pakistan, already a batter short after Saim Ayub suffered a broken ankle on the first morning, still trailed by 92 runs following the quick double blow. But Mohammad Rizwan (41) and Salman Agha (48) added 88 for the sixth wicket, and Aamer Jamal chipped in with a rapid 34 before the innings was wrapped up.

South Africa’s bowlers found little assistance from the flat pitch, with left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj, expected to play a key role, managing just three wickets for 137 runs after 45 overs of hard work.

South Africa will now head into the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s in June, riding high on a seven-match winning streak— their second-best sequence in history.
