Sourav Ganguly Makes Comeback to Cricket Administration, Poised to Represent CAB at BCCI AGM

With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) annual general meeting (AGM) set for September 28 in Mumbai, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is expected to represent the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).

The AGM comes at a pivotal time, with Roger Binny stepping down as BCCI President after crossing the age limit of 70 in July. Since then, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has been handling the role on an interim basis. To fill the vacant positions and decide on key matters, the BCCI has convened its AGM at its Mumbai headquarters.

Ganguly Back in Focus

According to The Telegraph India, Ganguly will attend the meeting as CAB’s representative. Days earlier, on September 22, he is also set to formally take over as CAB President at its own AGM. Speculation is rife that the former India captain could even enter the BCCI presidential race.

The upcoming BCCI elections will be significant, with voting scheduled for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer. While Devajit Saikia (secretary), Rohan Gauns Dessai (joint secretary), and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia (treasurer) are tipped to retain their positions, the spotlight remains firmly on who will take the president’s chair.

Tendulkar Quashes Speculation

Amid this power play, rumours also surfaced linking Sachin Tendulkar to the top post. However, the batting legend promptly dismissed the talk through his team, calling the reports “unfounded speculations.” Tendulkar reiterated that he has no role in BCCI politics and urged everyone not to fuel baseless rumours.
