On Wednesday, the BCCI revealed the squads for the opening round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. As expected, Shubman Gill will captain Team A, but notable absentees include Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The Duleep Trophy, marking the start of India’s domestic red-ball season, will kick off on September 5, 2024, in Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh) and Bengaluru.
This year’s tournament has been restructured from its traditional zonal format to a four-team round-robin competition, with Team A through Team D battling it out. The team with the highest points at the end of the league stage will be declared the winner.

Notable Absences:
Top players such as Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer have been appointed as captains of their respective teams. However, senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami will not be participating in this year’s Duleep Trophy. Nitish Kumar Reddy has been named in the squad but his participation remains contingent on his fitness.
