The 31-year-old reportedly withdrew from the match due to back stiffness and returned home to Mumbai from Srinagar on Tuesday evening.
Dube, who impressed during the recent Asia Cup with his all-round performances, is now expected to miss domestic action until the India tour of Australia. The upcoming T20I series against Australia, starting October 29, is likely to be his next appearance if he regains full fitness.
Musheer Khan replaces Shivam Dube
Mumbai has called up Musheer Khan as Dube’s replacement. Musheer, an all-rounder himself, missed the previous Ranji season after suffering a neck and collarbone injury in a road accident.
In Dube’s absence, Shardul Thakur will lead the side, while Sarfaraz Khan makes his return from a quadriceps injury that ruled him out of the West Indies Test series earlier this year. His presence adds valuable depth to Mumbai’s batting lineup.
Mumbai are placed in Group D alongside Jammu & Kashmir, Hyderabad, Delhi, Puducherry, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. Their season kicks off against J&K on October 15 at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, with play starting at 9:30 AM IST.
