Hetmyer, who recently represented the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026, was initially unavailable for the opening three matches of the series due to franchise commitments. However, after the Orcas finished fifth in the standings and missed the playoffs, the left-handed batter became available for national duty earlier than expected.
The 29-year-old scored 164 runs in 10 matches during the MLC season at an impressive strike rate of 136.66. His arrival is expected to strengthen the West Indies batting line-up as the hosts aim to build on their winning start to the series.
Hetmyer last played an ODI for the Caribbean side in June 2025. Although he was recalled for the ODI series against Sri Lanka earlier this year, he did not feature in any of the three matches. His latest inclusion now presents another opportunity to re-establish himself in the West Indies’ limited-overs setup.
Meanwhile, Greaves remains under close medical observation. Cricket West Indies has confirmed that the all-rounder will be reassessed ahead of the remaining two ODIs against New Zealand and the subsequent two-match Test series against Pakistan. Greaves recently enjoyed a breakthrough Test series against Sri Lanka, scoring a career-best 180 and earning the Player of the Series award as West Indies secured their first Test series victory since 2023.
West Indies currently hold a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series after a convincing seven-wicket win in the opening match. The first three ODIs are being played in Providence, while the final two fixtures will be held in Bridgetown, with Cricket West Indies expected to announce the squad for those matches later this week.
