BCCI Holds Back Mohammed Shami’s Australia Call-Up Despite Strong Comeback: Reports

Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, currently sidelined due to injury, is awaiting fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as he works his way back to full recovery.

The BCCI’s decision to delay the squad announcement for the 2025 Champions Trophy and the ODI series against England by a week has brought some positive news for Shami. According to reports, the experienced bowler is likely to receive clearance from the Sports Science wing of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. If cleared, he is expected to feature in both the ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy 2025. However, his inclusion in the T20I squad for the England series appears unlikely.

Shastri and Ponting Question Shami’s Management: ‘Really Surprised’

Shami underwent surgery in 2024 after playing through the ODI World Cup with an ankle injury. Following his surgery, he began his recovery at the NCA, returned to action in domestic cricket through the Ranji Trophy, and later participated in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was then rested for the opening matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy to manage his workload.

With star pacer Jasprit Bumrah also sidelined by injury, Shami’s presence becomes even more crucial for Team India in key tournaments. He is likely to take on the role of the team’s strike bowler in the upcoming events.
