While the Bangladesh national team members are initially unavailable for the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL), kicking off today across three venues, the excitement surrounding the nation’s premier fifty-over club-based tournament remains high. Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and opener Tamim Iqbal are poised to headline the tournament right from the start, drawing attention to the cricketing prowess they bring to the field.
With both Shakib and Tamim absent from the ongoing home series against Sri Lanka, all eyes will be on these stalwarts as they gear up to grace the opening day of the DPL.
Tamim’s Prime Bank will lock horns with Shinepukur Cricket Club at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, while Shakib’s Sheikh Jamal is set to clash with Gazi Tyres Cricket Academy at BKSP-3 ground on the inaugural day.
Amidst the spotlight on these national team icons, the DPL also presents a platform for players like Mohammad Saifuddin, representing defending champions Abahani Limited. Despite playing a crucial role in Fortune Barishal’s triumphant campaign in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) earlier this month, Saifuddin found himself overlooked for national duties.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the tournament, Saifuddin expressed confidence in his team’s balance and emphasized the importance of starting the campaign with a victory. He acknowledged the pressure to secure the championship title but underscored the significance of playing good cricket throughout the season.
Reflecting on his omission from the national squad, Saifuddin endorsed the decision, citing his recent comeback from a back injury. He believes that rushing back into international cricket after intense matches in the BPL finals would have been premature. Instead, he aims to make his mark in the DPL, trusting that strong performances will pave the way back into the national setup.
