Lahore Qalandars’ skipper, Shaheen Afridi, sheds light on the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) challenges and discusses the team’s prospects for the upcoming T20 World Cup, sharing exclusive insights with Cricket Pakistan.

Despite hurdles such as the absence of key players and fluctuating form, Shaheen remains hopeful about Lahore Qalandars’ performance in the PSL. He addresses the departure of star bowler Rashid Khan, acknowledging his irreplaceable role while expressing optimism regarding the potential impact of newcomer Sikandar Raza.

Rashid was our linchpin, particularly in the middle overs, picking crucial wickets. While he’s irreplaceable, maintaining team balance is vital. We’re hopeful Sikandar’s inclusion will prove beneficial,” Shaheen stated.

Shaheen expresses confidence in Sikandar Raza and newcomer Salman Fayyaz, anticipating their ability to step up, especially in Rashid’s absence.

I believe Sikandar possesses the skills to fill Rashid’s shoes, and Salman, debuting in the PSL, shows promise. They’re poised to deliver,” Shaheen adds.

Additionally, Shaheen addresses the challenges faced by bowler Haris Rauf, emphasizing resilience amidst tough times and highlighting Rauf’s potential to bounce back.

Just like batsmen endure lean spells, bowlers face such phases. Haris, despite his struggles, has the strength to rebound. He’s not just Lahore Qalandars’ but Pakistan’s finest bowler; finding his rhythm is crucial,” Shaheen emphasizes.

Reflecting on his captaincy, Shaheen expresses joy in leading the team, pledging support to his players in both roles.

I relish captaining my team, aiming to unify them. It’s an honor to lead Lahore Qalandars and Pakistan, ensuring players’ solidarity,” Shaheen shares.

Looking forward, Shaheen underscores the importance of the ongoing PSL in preparing for the T20 World Cup.

The PSL is a litmus test for our squad. It’s a prime opportunity to assess our players’ readiness for the T20 World Cup,” he remarks.

Shaheen also cherishes playing in front of the home crowd, contrasting it with the ambiance in Dubai, underscoring the unmatched joy of performing in one’s homeland.

“While we appreciate support in Dubai, nothing compares to playing in our country, amidst our fans,” Shaheen concludes, highlighting the unique experience of playing on home turf.
