Shadab Khan’s Heroics Lead Islamabad United to Victory in PSL 9 Opener


In a thrilling start to the HBL PSL 9, Shadab Khan’s exceptional all-round performance propelled Islamabad United to an impressive eight-wicket triumph over defending champions Lahore Qalandars at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The match witnessed a spectacular unbeaten innings of 74 runs by Shadab Khan, who formed a remarkable 138-run partnership with Salman Ali Agha (64 not out off 31 balls, including seven fours and three sixes) for the third wicket, guiding Islamabad United to chase down the target of 196 runs with ease.

United began their chase confidently, scoring 50 runs in the powerplay, losing only one wicket in the process. Shadab Khan, entering at number three, wasted no time in asserting his dominance, welcoming the opposition with a flurry of boundaries.

As the innings progressed, United maintained their momentum, reaching 88 for two at the halfway mark, requiring 108 runs off the final 10 overs. Shadab Khan’s aggressive batting and strategic partnerships ensured a smooth chase, with United achieving the target with 10 balls to spare.

Shadab Khan’s unbeaten innings comprised six fours and five sixes, showcasing his prowess with the bat. Alongside him, Salman Ali Agha’s explosive batting played a vital role in securing the victory for Islamabad United.

Earlier, Lahore Qalandars posted a competitive total of 195 for five in their 20 overs, courtesy of Rassie van der Dussen’s impressive knock of 71 runs off 41 balls. Despite some notable contributions from the Qalandars’ batting lineup, United’s bowlers managed to contain the opposition’s scoring rate.

Naseem Shah, making a comeback after a hiatus, and Shadab Khan, returning from injury, delivered crucial performances with the ball for Islamabad United.

Overall, Shadab Khan’s exceptional all-round display earned him the well-deserved title of Player of the Match, setting the tone for what promises to be an exhilarating season of PSL cricket.
