In a candid discussion, Sarfaraz Ahmed, the former Pakistan cricket captain, divulged details of his interactions with the newly appointed coach of Quetta Gladiators, Shane Watson.
During an interview with Cricket Pakistan, Sarfaraz expressed his admiration for Watson’s invaluable guidance during their time playing together.
The experience of sharing the field with Shane Watson was truly enriching. He provided exceptional support and his extensive T20 expertise is bound to be a game-changer. His approach mirrors the dynamics of T20 cricket, and his presence in the coaching setup will undoubtedly elevate the team’s performance,” remarked Sarfaraz.
Additionally, Sarfaraz highlighted Watson’s proactive coaching style, emphasizing his inclination towards collaborative planning.
Shane Watson brings a proactive approach to coaching. He engages in discussions to tailor strategies according to the team’s perspective, fostering a cohesive and strategic environment,” Sarfaraz noted.
While Sarfaraz acknowledged communication with Watson through various channels like WhatsApp and phone calls, he clarified that in-depth strategic discussions had yet to take place.
I’ve had conversations with him via WhatsApp and phone calls, albeit without delving into specific strategies. Typically, coaches engage in one-on-one sessions with players, as was the case with me. However, with Watson’s imminent arrival in Lahore, I anticipate more in-depth discussions,” Sarfaraz added.
Notably, in recent developments, Rilee Rossouw has been appointed as the new captain of the Gladiators, succeeding Sarfaraz after deliberations between the team management and Watson. Saud Shakeel has been named as the vice-captain, marking the dawn of a new leadership era for the franchise.
