CSK are reportedly ready to offer one of their core players in exchange to bring Samson to Chennai ahead of the IPL 2026 season.
Earlier, talks between the two franchises had reportedly stalled after RR failed to agree on terms with CSK. However, fresh discussions have reignited the speculation, with CSK now believed to be willing to part ways with a top player to make the deal happen.
RR-CSK Trade Talks Intensify
According to a Cricbuzz report, both franchises have resumed dialogue regarding Samson’s transfer. The Super Kings have even approached one of their senior players to discuss his willingness to join Rajasthan if the trade goes through.
A final decision is expected around November 10 or 11, following CSK’s internal meeting featuring MS Dhoni, CEO Kasi Viswanathan, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and head coach Stephen Fleming, where the franchise will finalise its retention list and strategy for the mini-auction.
Samson’s Value and Potential Role at CSK
If the trade materialises, Samson would bring both batting firepower and leadership depth to Chennai — possibly as a long-term successor to Dhoni. The Kerala batter has played 177 IPL matches, scoring 4,704 runs at an average of 30.95 and a strike rate of 139.05.
Dhoni Set to Play IPL 2026
Amid the trade buzz, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has also confirmed that MS Dhoni will continue playing in the IPL 2026 season, ending retirement rumours.
“MS has told us that he will be available for the next season,” Viswanathan told Cricbuzz.
Dhoni, the face of CSK since 2008, has led the franchise to five IPL titles and scored 4,865 runs across 16 seasons — solidifying his status as one of the league’s greatest leaders.
