Hossain made his international debut in 2009 in an ODI against Sri Lanka national cricket team in Mirpur, where he immediately made history by becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler to take four wickets on debut. He finished the match with figures of 4/33, including the wicket of Angelo Mathews, helping Bangladesh secure a memorable victory.

Over his international career, Rubel played 27 Tests, 104 ODIs, and 28 T20Is, taking a total of 159 international appearances. In ODIs alone, he claimed 129 wickets at an average of 34.31, establishing himself as a key pace option for Bangladesh.

One of his most iconic performances came in the 2015 ICC World Cup in Adelaide, where he took four wickets against England, playing a crucial role in a famous Bangladesh win that contributed to England’s early exit from the tournament.

His career-best ODI figures came against New Zealand, where he took 6/26, including a hat-trick, earning the Player of the Match award. He also recorded a five-wicket haul in Test cricket, taking 5/166 against New Zealand in Hamilton.

In a heartfelt statement, Rubel said he is stepping away due to recurring injuries but will continue playing domestic cricket.

“The national team is my passion. But at some point, I had to leave international cricket… I intend to continue playing domestic cricket. Thank you to my family, friends, media personnel and fans,” he shared.

Rubel Hossain ends his international career as one of Bangladesh’s notable fast bowlers and a key figure in several historic victories.
