The latest ICC rankings update was released on December 10 across all formats, bringing notable shifts in both batting and bowling charts.
In Test batting, Root leads the table, followed by Kane Williamson and Steve Smith, who have moved up to second and third positions respectively. Root, Williamson, Smith and Kohli have long been hailed as the modern-day Fab Four, but with Kohli retired from the format, the remaining trio continues to dominate and justify their elite status.
However, England’s Harry Brook has slipped two places to No.4 after scoring just 46 runs in both innings of the Gabba Test.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc has reached a career-high No.3 position in the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings. His rise comes after two spectacular performances in the ongoing Ashes, where he claimed 18 wickets across just two matches—including a stellar six-wicket haul with the pink ball. With Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood unavailable, Starc has led the Australian attack with authority, earning back-to-back Player of the Match honors.
In ODIs, Rohit Sharma remains No.1, while Virat Kohli has jumped up to No.2, maintaining India’s stronghold in the limited-overs format. The latest rankings underline a shift in Test supremacy—with England and Australia firmly at the forefront of individual excellence.
