Indian captain Rohit Sharma has kept his cards close to his chest when it comes to playing in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027. He mentioned that he will evaluate his form and fitness closer to the time before making any decisions.
After India’s Champions Trophy victory on Sunday, Rohit, who became just the second Indian captain to win multiple ICC titles, said the 2027 World Cup felt too distant to make any firm commitments.
“It’s hard to say right now, but I’m keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I’m playing,” Rohit explained. “At the moment, I’m in great form and enjoying my time with the team. The team enjoys my company too, which is great.”
When asked about the 2027 World Cup, he added, “It’s too far away, so I can’t say anything for sure, but I’m keeping all my options open.”

The 37-year-old also shot down any talk of retiring soon after India’s victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final.
“I’m not retiring from this format… don’t spread any rumours,” he said during the post-match press conference.
Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, had retired from T20 internationals after leading India to victory in last year’s ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States. Their retirement sparked speculation that both might also step away from ODIs after the Champions Trophy.
However, Rohit’s recent comments indicate he plans to continue playing in the 50-over format for now, keeping the possibility of the 2027 World Cup open.
