Rohit Sharma Hails Team India’s T20 World Cup 2026 Victory: “There’s No Looking Back from Here”

After an agonising 11-year wait since their 2013 Champions Trophy triumph under MS Dhoni, Team India has ended the drought with successive ICC white-ball victories. The men’s team has now won three consecutive ICC events, becoming the first-ever three-time T20 World Cup winners and the first side to defend the title on home soil. With their depth and talent, India enters the next ICC challenge—the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa—with strong credentials.

The women’s team, meanwhile, will aim to add T20 silverware when they compete in the T20 World Cup 2026 in England later this year.

Speaking at the launch of the inaugural women’s Mumbai T20 League, Rohit Sharma shared insights into India’s recent success (via ESPN Cricinfo):

“There’s no secret to success, it’s all about hard work. International cricketers—men’s and women’s—they work really, really hard to achieve what they have achieved. Of course, it’s not just the players on the field but also the many people behind the scenes who contribute so much. A lot of credit goes to them as well.”

“I feel very proud to see what both teams have achieved over the last couple of years. Watching the women’s team win their World Cup in Mumbai was fantastic, and the men’s T20 World Cup triumph was phenomenal. I hope this is just the start—there’s no looking back from here. Momentum is crucial in cricket, and both teams have it. I hope we carry it forward.”

Success is also evident at the youth level. The Ayush Mhatre-led U-19 men’s team recently clinched the 2026 U-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe, while the Niki Prasad-led U-19 women’s team lifted the 2025 title.

The growth of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL) has further strengthened India’s cricketing infrastructure, talent pipeline, and financial clout.

Looking ahead, Rohit Sharma will be back in action for IPL 2026, which kicks off on March 28. After a modest home series against New Zealand, Rohit’s focus has shifted to T20 cricket, but with ODIs prioritized over the next 18 months, he will also get regular playing opportunities. His Mumbai Indians will begin their campaign on March 29 against the revamped Kolkata Knight Riders, with Rohit aiming for a prolific season.
