Rocky Flintoff, son of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, has secured his first professional contract with Lancashire at just 16 years old.

Earlier this week, Rocky was named in the England Under-19 squad to face Sri Lanka. He joined Lancashire’s academy last year and has played four times for the 2nd XI this season, scoring a half-century against Durham and a century against Warwickshire. His batting clips, showcasing a technique reminiscent of his father’s, have gone viral on social media.

I’m thrilled to sign my first professional contract with Lancashire,

said Rocky Flintoff.

I’ve been working towards this since I started playing cricket, and to represent my home county is a dream come true. Having been with the club since I was 8, it’s an honor to continue playing for the Red Rose. I’ve enjoyed my time with the Second XI this season and look forward to improving my game.

Mark Chilton, Lancashire’s director of cricket performance, expressed his congratulations:

I would like to congratulate Rocky, his family, and everyone who has supported him in his cricket journey. His performances and determined attitude with the Second XI have impressed the coaching staff. Rocky is grounded and understands the hard work ahead to reach his potential. He’ll be with the England U19s for the next couple of weeks, and we look forward to integrating him into the professional squad after that.

Andrew Flintoff debuted for Lancashire in 1995 and became one of England’s most pivotal all-rounders, playing over 200 times across formats and famously helping to reclaim the Ashes in 2005 after 16 years.
