Newly Appointed Pakistan Captain Mohammad Rizwan Gears Up in the Nets for Upcoming Australia Tour

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan praised his team’s collective effort after a thrilling victory over South Africa in the first ODI in Paarl. The visitors chased down a challenging target, powered by brilliant innings from SaimAyub and Salman Ali Agha, to clinch a narrow win with three balls to spare and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Rizwan acknowledged South Africa’s strong start but credited Pakistan’s spinners for shifting the momentum. “Their openers got off to a good start, but our spinners put the squeeze on them. Ayub and Agha played with great maturity. It’s been a while since we’ve seen an innings like Agha’s,” Rizwan remarked.

The skipper emphasized the significance of breakthroughs in the middle overs in ODI cricket. “If you pick up wickets after the powerplay and during the middle overs, you’re always in the game,” he explained.

Rizwan also expressed pride in fostering team unity as captain. “My job is to keep the team together, and it was heartening to see Agha give the Player of the Match award to Saim,” he said.

Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Agha’s career-best four-wicket haul, restricted South Africa to 239 despite a resilient 86 from Heinrich Klaasen. In response, Pakistan recovered from 60/4 with a match-defining 141-run partnership between Ayub and Agha. Ayub’s century and Agha’s unbeaten 82 ultimately sealed the win.

The two teams now head to Cape Town for the second ODI, scheduled for Thursday, December 19.
