Bangladesh’s new pace sensation, Nahid Rana, has captured the attention of the cricketing world with his fiery bowling, consistently clocking speeds over 150 km/h during the Test series against Pakistan. As excitement builds ahead of the India series, Bangladesh pace bowling coach Andre Adams has called for patience and measured expectations for the young quick.
Adams believes the sudden spotlight hasn’t fazed the humble Rana.
He’s a grounded kid, not the type to get carried away by the praise,
Adams shared it in an interview with Cricbuzz.
He’s always focused on improving, and his main goal is to get better with each game. He’s been working hard, especially in the gym, to build the strength young fast bowlers need. Nahid knows what he wants and he’s putting in the work to achieve it.
One of Rana’s standout qualities, according to Adams, is his ability to maintain his blistering pace throughout his spells.
Even when he’s bowling bouncers, his speed doesn’t drop, which is rare and exciting to see,
Adams added.
Rana’s journey in international cricket is still in its early stages, and Adams emphasized the importance of patience.
He’s only played three Test matches; you can’t expect him to be as precise as a veteran like Glenn McGrath just yet. But what we’re seeing is improvement, and that’s what matters.
Adams also praised another rising star, Hasan Mahmud, who has evolved from a white-ball prospect to a red-ball contender.
Hasan’s transformation has a lot to do with the work he’s been putting in with local coaches. We saw his potential at the World Cup, and we know he can be a world-class bowler. His athleticism and hunger to improve are what make him special.
Reflecting on Taskin Ahmed’s return to Test cricket after health setbacks, Adams acknowledged the challenges of managing a fast bowler’s workload.
Taskin worked hard to get back, but nothing can fully prepare you for the intensity of a Test match until you’re out there. He struggled a bit in the first innings but found his rhythm as the game went on.
The absence of left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, who is recovering from a groin injury, will be felt in the two-match Test series against India. Adams remains hopeful for Shoriful’s return ahead of the T20 series, saying,
Shoriful’s energy and ability to swing the ball have been key for us. We’d love to have him fit and ready for the T20Is.
While Nahid Rana’s rise continues to garner excitement, Adams’s message is clear: the road to greatness requires time, hard work, and patience—qualities Rana seems to possess in abundance.
