RCB Receives Conditional Approval to Host IPL Games at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Talks Continue with Karnataka Government

The development comes after a meeting between officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), RCB representatives, and Home Minister G. Parameshwara, who indicated a positive stance toward the request. A final decision is expected later this week after further consultations.

Cricketing activities at the Chinnaswamy Stadium have been suspended since June last year, following a tragic stampede during RCB’s IPL title celebration that claimed 11 lives and left several others injured. The incident highlighted serious concerns over crowd management, security, and civic coordination, prompting authorities to halt major events at the venue. With the IPL season approaching, KSCA and RCB have been actively engaging with the state government to secure permission under stricter safety protocols.

KSCA President and former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad confirmed that the association facilitated the meeting to discuss hosting IPL fixtures at the iconic stadium. Speaking to reporters, Prasad said the Home Minister was supportive and assured that the matter would be reviewed promptly.

“We have been facilitating this meeting between RCB and the government. KSCA wanted to meet the officials, and we have done that. They have been very supportive and guided us to make sure these matches can happen here. Today, we brought the RCB representatives, and we had a very good meeting with the Home Minister. He promised to have another meeting with the committee on the 12th to give a final decision on hosting the matches as soon as possible. Since RCB won the IPL last year, the inaugural ceremony is expected to happen at Chinnaswamy Stadium, and the Home Minister assured that he will make arrangements convenient for the ceremony and all RCB matches,” Prasad said.

Prasad emphasized the logistical urgency, noting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) requires clarity on venues to plan schedules, publish fixtures, and finalize arrangements.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara confirmed that conditional permission has already been granted but stressed that a final decision will be made after detailed discussions with key stakeholders.

“The IPL matches are approaching. KSCA President Venkatesh Prasad, spokesperson Vinay, and RCB representatives met me. They asked for permission, and we have given conditional approval. But the matter needs further discussion, so we will take a final call on Wednesday after consulting the BBMP commissioner, Police commissioner, and Law representatives. We will consider all pros and cons before making the final decision,” Parameshwara said.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium is now on track to host IPL matches again, with fans eagerly awaiting confirmation and preparations for the upcoming season.
