Rangarajan, who has been a key member of the team’s support staff for the past six years, steps into the role following Luke Williams’ departure due to other coaching commitments. Williams had guided RCB to their maiden WPL title in 2024.
Rangarajan: A veteran of the RCB-W setup
Malolan Rangarajan has long been an integral part of the RCB-W camp, serving as head of scouting and assistant coach in 2025. He also led the scouting efforts in 2024. A former first-class cricketer, Rangarajan claimed 136 wickets in 47 matches and scored 1,379 runs at an average of 28.14. Though his T20 career was brief—just two games with 28 runs and no wickets—he played for Uttarakhand, South Zone, and Tamil Nadu.
Since retiring in 2019, Rangarajan has been a vital member of the WPL coaching staff, and he is expected to build strong relationships with the players while guiding and mentoring the squad effectively.
Why Rangarajan was appointed
Luke Williams stepped down due to overlapping commitments with the Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), which clash with the WPL 2026 schedule starting January 8.
RCB-W have also strengthened their coaching staff by bringing in former England fast bowler and World Cup winner Anya Shrubsole to lead the bowling unit. Bowlers such as Renuka Singh Thakur and Sophie Devine will benefit from Shrubsole’s experience as RCB-W aims to bounce back after a disappointing 2025 campaign.
